STOP THE USE OF MILITARIZED VIOLENCE TO ENFORCE RACIALIZED IMMIGRATION POLICIES! JOIN THE CAMPAIGN OF RESISTANCE AND FOR JUSTICE!
February 4, 2026
The National Conference of Black Lawyers (NCBL) stands in unwavering solidarity with
the Black Alliance for Just Immigration (BAJI), Black Lives Matter MN and residents
of Minnesota demanding that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and all
federal immigration enforcement operations immediately withdraw from Minnesota, stop
violently occupying Minnesota neighborhoods, murdering those who are exercising their
First Amendment Rights to protest, and end all raids that terrorize Black, immigrant, and
working-class people. This is a matter of human dignity and fundamental justice.
Across Minnesota, from Minneapolis to Moorhead and beyond, communities joined by
some Minnesota state actors including former NCBL Minnesota Chapter leader and now
Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison, who are using the courts to attempt to oust
ICE, are resisting a brutal federal enforcement surge that has led to thousands of arrests
and the killings of Renée Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents. We recognize that
ICE’s presence in Minneapolis and throughout the state is not an isolated policy issue
— it was specifically targeted by the Trump Administration to be part of its systemic use
of federal government violence and racialized control. It is deeply rooted in anti-
Blackness, exploitation, and the criminalization of immigrant communities.
Make a Statement With Your Actions
This moment demands concrete action — not silence. NCBL calls on its chapters,
members, partners, and all people committed to justice to stand up, organize, and join in
stopping this Administration's use of a taxpayer funded racist authoritarian domestic
federal paramilitary force to destroy Black, immigrant, and working-class people and their
communities. NCBL urges you to take action by doing one or more of the following:
1. Participating in and promoting:
Legal Observer Trainings — equipping community members to lawfully observe,
document, and record federal enforcement activities in ways that strengthen
accountability and evidence for community defense;
ICE Watch / Constitutional Observer Trainings — designed to help people safely
witness and document enforcement activity while respecting personal and legal
safety protocols; and
Habeas Corpus & Know-Your-Rights Trainings — empowering our communities
with legal strategies to protect individuals detained by federal agents and to
challenge unjust detentions in court.
These trainings are vital tools of grassroots resistance, enabling ordinary people to act
with skill, confidence, and collective purpose in the face of escalation.
2. Turning principles into practice by:
Supporting mutual aid and legal defense funds for those targeted by enforcement.
Participating in coordinated actions, vigils, teach-ins, and public demonstrations.
Connecting with local immigrant justice networks, faith communities, labor allies,
and abolitionist organizers.
This moment is bigger than any one protest or press release. The resistance is building
wave of power rooted in people’s collective will to defend life, freedom, and community
against a fascist rise in state violence.
3. Supporting the BAJI Campaign & Allied Movements
NCBL proudly endorses and amplifies the work of BAJI’s campaign opposing
federal enforcement and advocating for community-driven solutions to public safety and
mutual care. It calls on everyone — Black liberation organizations, civil rights advocates,
students, labor unions, faith leaders, and community-based organizations — to join in
unity and action to:
Demand ICE get out of Minnesota and all other states
Demand the Trump Administration be made accountable for its use of militarized
violence
Support communities under attack
Invest in community-based initiatives to increase safety and restore dignity
NCBL makes no apologies for calling this what it is: a struggle against federal
government repression, systemic anti-Black violence, and the erosion of democracy and
humanity by militarized enforcement tactics. The resistance in Minnesota and across the
country — from rapid response teams to constitutional observer networks —
demonstrates the power of coordinated community action to challenge oppressive
systems and defend our people.
Justice for Keith Porfer, Jr. Justice for Renée Good. Justice for Alex Pretti. Justice for all
victims of government violence.
ICE OUT OF MINNESOTA. ICE OUT OF EVERY COMMUNITY.
