THE ISRAEL & PALESTINE CONFLICT

JUNE 5, 2021

The National Conference of Black Lawyers has always recognized that the Black liberation struggle in the United States is inseparable from human rights and national liberation struggles worldwide.

Therefore, we cannot be silent in the face of the terror being unleashed by the Zionist forces of the state of Israel on their occupied population of Palestinians.

It is not coincidental that the Zionists in Israel have escalated their terror against the Palestinian population by an attack on worshipers at the Al-Aqsa mosque during the last days of the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

By conflating Palestinian identity with Islam, which is their majority, but not their only, religion, the Zionists seek to strengthen their confounding of religious and political/national identities, thereby confirming their attempts to merge anti-Zionism with anti-Semitism.

And the goading of captive people to a point beyond endurance and then branding their response with whatever weapons come to hand as aggression is a tactic that cannot be accepted by anyone committed to human dignity, justice, or true peace.

As an organization of lawyers, we recall the numerous U.N. resolutions defied by the Zionist state and call on the international community to treat Israel as the scofflaw that it is.

We also call on the government of our own country, the United States of America, to acknowledge that Israel is an apartheid state, to cease its enabling and protection of this outlaw state, and to renounce the last administration’s destabilizing recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital.

The suffering of the Palestinian people under occupation cannot be left unaddressed and allowed to continue.

NCBL supports the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions campaign, vociferously opposed by Zionists because of its potential effectiveness, and urges its strengthening and enlargement.

NCBL supports the Palestinian people’s right of return and we support their right of self-defense as we work to eliminate the need for it.

NCBL calls of the government of the United States of America to:

  • turn its campaign of pressure on states to normalize relations with the Zionist state of Israel into a campaign of pressure on that state to recognize the rule of law

  • conform to the U.N. resolutions applicable to it

  • uphold the human rights of the Palestinian people

  • embrace a path to a just resolution of conflict that can result in true peace in this historic region.
